Personality
For being such a small size, Kalneer has a set of LUNGS on him. He's loud and he's proud, and he'll tell you exactly what he thinks of you without pulling any punches. He sings while he works, old ditties he'd heard in his youth but can't quite remember from where but are fun to sing anyway. Most rogue smiths are unfriendly loners, but Kalneer is one of the most cheerful owls you'd ever meet.
His friendliness aside, Kalneer doesn't have many scruples. He'll make anything for anybody that's willing to pay. Battle claws,
works of art, daggers, anything. He doesn't ask questions about WHY you want enough fire-tipped battle claws to outfit a squadron. Not his business, no sirree. He's cheerful but doesn't care much for things like 'honor' or 'nobility'. You do you,
he'll do him, and everything's kosher. You could tell him you'll straight up murder somebody and so long as it doesn't effect him, Kalneer doesn't care.

History
Kalneer hatched second in a clutch of three eggs. His family lived in a cactus in the desert of Kuneer. For all intents and purposes, Kalneer was a fairly normal owlet. He bickered with his siblings, listened to his parents' stories, and was impatient to learn how to fly.
Once he learned how to fly, Kalneer found himself drawn to the mysteries of the world. He left the home he grew up in to explore all over the owl kingdoms, making friends and enemies alike in every owl he met. In an act of fate, Kalneer came across the forge of a blacksmith in a cave in The Beaks. He was cantankerous and crotchety, but there was something in the way that sparks flew off the heated metal and the way the embers and coals glowed that drew Kalneer in.
The blacksmith taught Kalneer everything he knew about blacksmithing, if only to get the young owl out of his feathers faster.
It took time, and Kalneer wouldn't exactly call himself a master smith, but he could get by! So off he went with a bag of self-made tongs and other tools.
That was years ago. Now he has a rather nice set up in the beautiful forest of Silverveil, and he's certainly made a name for himself.
