- Guardians of Ga'Hoole

• King: Supreme ruler of the Tree. A fair and just ruler though and unlike the Pure Ones, can be of any species. He generally makes the decisions, but always consults the Parliament.
• Queen: Works alongside the King. Like her mate, she is also fair and just to those that work below her. Consults the Parliament before making huge decisions also.
• Chief Ryb: Parliament member; The top ryb and has talents in more than one chaw. Because of that, the Chief Ryb is able to help the other rybs teach and often acts as the main adviser to the king. Maintains the Chaw of Chaws.
• Ryb: Parliament member; They are teachers of the Tree and only teach one subject of a chaw. They also go on missions with their specified chaw.
• Blacksmith/Metals Ryb: Parliament member; Creates tools using fire for the Tree. Also maintains the Metals chaw as a Ryb.
• Librarian/Printers Ryb: Parliament member; Takes care of the Library and all of the books inside it. Makes sure they are in order and undamaged. If a book is damaged, the Librarian will repair it. Also maintains the Printers chaw as a Ryb.
• Cook: Cooks food for the Tree. 
• Singer: Sings beautiful songs when the owls settle in for sleep, rise for the night, and on special occasions like holidays or celebrations. Almost always a snowy owl.
• Guardians: Owls who have mastered the chaw(s) that they have studied in. Occasionally they are called upon to speak with the Parliament.
• Matrons: Owls who have specialized in the Healing Chaw. Rarely do they fight, though some do act as Guardians as well. At times they are brought to battles to treat owls in the field.
• Students: Owls learning how to be a guardian for the Great Tree. Part of a Chaw.
• Juniors: Young owls old enough to be students or new arrivals at the Tree. They are in the process of being chawed and are going through chawlets.
• Owlets: Baby owl chicks recently hatched. Not yet old enough to participate in classes or do much of anything.
• Nest-maid Snakes: Keep the tree clean, serve food, and join special guilds.

- New Order

• King: The supreme and absolute ruler of the New Order. His word is law and he rules without mercy. If you dare defy the New Order, you will answer to him.
• Queen: The second-in-command of the New Order. She advises her mate and has much say in the workings of the New Order.
• General: This owl leads the forces of the New Order. They have the third most say in the entire New Order. 
• Soldier: This is a soldier and basic unit of the New Order. They live to serve.
• Head Scholar: This owl teaches the young of the New Order and is in charge of making masks for the special ranks. His underlings make basic masks.
• Scholar Underling: These special owls assist the Head Scholar in his duties, teaching the young and mass producing various masks for the New Order.
• Prime Assassin: This owl organizes the rest of the assassins and gives out strategic missions to kill important targets.
• Assassin: This owl specializes in murder of the slimiest degree. They are masters of stealthy flying and infiltration.
• Trainee: This owlet is learning the ways of the New Order.
• Owlet: Baby owl chicks recently hatched. Not yet old enough to participate in classes or do much of anything.

- Free Owls

• Rogues: These owls have no home and wander aimlessly, sometimes working as mercenaries or just adventuring around.
• Exiles: These owls have either been exiled from the Guardians of Ga'Hoole or from the New Order.
• Regular Owls: Owls who live ordinary lives in their kingdom homes.
• Owlets: Baby owl chicks recently hatched. Not yet old enough to participate in classes or do much of anything.
