Personality: Garin is a very stern and uptight owl on the surface, but one can feel in their gizzard (or heart, for non-owls) that he is young at heart. He is also a very active part of the Ga'Hoolian community despite being king. In addition, he feels that he should be the one put in danger instead of the other owls of the tree. In general, he is a bleeding heart, but will stiffen up when necessary for an owl of his rank.
History: Garin was raised up in the Northern Kingdoms, as that is where Northern Hawk Owls are from. He was hatched by his birth parents in a little cranny near H'rathgar Glacier. Unfortunately, when he was very young, their nest was found and raided by kraals for valuables. His parents tried to fight the colorful owl pirates off, but they were wounded and eventually died limping away from their old nest. That left twelve hungry chicks, Garin included, in the nest with kraals to decide their fate. Most of the group opted to abandon them and take their treasure back with them, but one named Inger insisted on saving at least one, as she believed it cruel to leave all of them to die. So, Garin was chosen by Inger to be raised as a kraal. And raised as a kraal he was. He lived like them, ate like them, flew like them, and fought like them. He was of one year when the Guardians of Ga'Hoole came to the Northern Kingdoms to respond to the rising kraal threat. Or at least, a few guardians and not the entire tree. Garin fought them alongside the other kraals, but they were ultimately defeated. Inger, who had become like a mother to Garin, had perished in the battle when she went yeep and fell. Garin, crushed, gave up and begged a guardian for death. This guardian, Elimar, refused him, but told him that he showed promise. He told Garin that he could see the makings of a guardian deep down inside him. He offered him to come, which Garin accepted, despite the other kraals telling him he would never be allowed back at H'rathgar Glacier.
There he trained first as a junior, then as a student in the Navigation Chaw, and then became a fully-fledged guardian, no pun intended. Over time, he became a very important part of the tree due to the heart he brought to it. The king at the time saw this and helped him become an even better owl, later naming him his heir. Garin promised he would do whatever he could to redeem every owl he could, even if it killed him.
